Weekend Review: Long Run, Deep Dish & Sour Beer

Three highlights from last weekend:

1. 7 Mile Run: I’m about half way through my half marathon training plan and this weekend’s long run was a good fitness test. I felt pretty sluggish by the end, which means its time to start bringing water and snacks with me on my long runs so I can re-fuel. Matt and I ran together for the first 5.5 miles, and headed over the Hawthorne Bridge to the east bank esplanade:

2. Deep Dish Pizza: One of the things we miss most about Chicago since moving to Portland is the pizza. On Saturday Matt made a great Deep Dish pizza – just like our favorite from Lou’s, but with more veggies: mushrooms, green pepper, onion and a Marzano tomato sauce on top as is custom with ‘real’ deep dish. It was so delicious, but my waist-line appreciates that it is not as accessible as it used to be since there are also generous helpings of multiple kinds of cheeses – like mozzarella, Parmesan, and provolone. Check it out – extreme cheesy-veggie goodness:

3. Cascade Brewing: On Sunday afternoon we took the hounds for a long walk and then headed out for lunch at Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Southeast Portland. We enjoyed some small plate appetizers, marinated olives and a cheese plate, along with the local brews. My favorite was the Kriek (pronounced creek)- a Northwest style sour ale made with cherries:

Question: What did you do this weekend?
